Funfair Ride Safety & Maintenance – Daily Checks, NDT Testing & ADIPS Inspections

Everyone sees the lights, hears the music and watches the rides operating.

What most people don’t see is the work that happens before the first passenger gets on.

At The Fun Firm, every ride is checked as part of the setup process and again before opening to the public. Daily inspections are carried out and recorded, with the attraction then monitored throughout the operating day by our trained team.

Depending on the ride, those checks can include:

🔧 Hydraulics and moving components
✅ Passenger restraints and locking systems
⚡ Electrical systems and trip switches
🛑 Emergency stop systems
🔩 Fixings, bolts and structural components
⚙️ Bearings and mechanical parts
🚧 Platforms, access areas and fencing
🛢️ Oil and hydraulic fluid levels where applicable
🔧 Greasing and lubrication of moving parts
🎡 General condition of the ride before opening

Safety Checks at Every Setup

Every time a ride is built at an event, our team carries out the relevant setup and inspection procedures before operation.

The ride is not simply delivered, switched on and opened.

It is built, checked, tested and recorded before passengers are allowed on.

Once the event is open, our operators continue to monitor the attraction throughout the day, keeping an eye on the ride, restraints, operating area and general condition while it is running.

If something doesn’t look or feel right, it gets checked.

Regular Maintenance Behind the Scenes

Daily checks are only one part of looking after a fairground ride.

Fairground rides are mechanical machines, and that means regular hands-on maintenance is a big part of the job.

Bearings, bushes, pins, joints and other moving components need regular inspection, lubrication and greasing to reduce wear and keep everything operating as it should.

Hydraulic systems, oil levels, electrical systems, fixings and mechanical components are also checked and maintained as required.

A lot of this work happens away from the public eye — early mornings before an event, late evenings after closing or back at the yard between jobs.

It may not be the glamorous part of operating rides, but it is one of the most important.

Scheduled Inspections & Testing

Alongside our daily checks and ongoing maintenance, our attractions are also subject to further scheduled inspections and testing, including:

🔧 Weekly checks
🔧 Monthly checks
🔍 NDT testing where required
✅ Annual ADIPS inspection and certification

These inspections work alongside the routine maintenance carried out by our own team throughout the year.

Looking Good Is One Thing. Looking After Them Properly Is Another.

We take a lot of pride in how our attractions are presented.

The lighting, artwork, sound systems and overall appearance of a ride are all part of the experience.

But looking good is only part of the job.

The maintenance, inspections, greasing, servicing and checks behind the scenes are just as important.

It’s something we’ve always believed in:

Looking good is one thing. Looking after them properly is another.

And we do both.
